Heavy Horse Pull

Using horses to pull heavy loads used to be a way of life. Now a days teamsters do it for the sportsmanship.

Teamsters compete against one another in three classes: light weight (under 2800lbs) middle weight (2801lbs-3400lbs) and heavy weights (3401lbs and over).

The team must pull a boat of weights fourteen feet. This boat is positioned between two ropes 18 feet apart.

They are judged for their sportsmanship, the fit of the harness and their ability to pull.

This year features two shows(combined weight and distance).

Saturday at 5:00pm and Sunday at 9:00am

The Swan River Agriculture Society held their first Heavy Horse Pull in 1998. Teams from across Saskatchewan and Manitoba compete in the annual event that keeps getting more popular each year.
